German variable data software specialist Direct Smile introduced its latest Cross Media v.5 software to the UK at the identically named Cross Media Show in London this week. This new version of the package was first shown in Germany at drupa in May.

It’s intended to make it easy to create and implement cross media campaigns at low cost. It can handle personalised print, PURLs, e-mail, web pages and mobile internet pages in the same package. A simple drag and drop interface allows layouts to be created and adjusted on-screen, including templates and brand management to enforce a common look and feel across the different media.

Triggers can be set up  that will automatically start a certain activity, for example an e-mail that is sent out whenever a new record is added to the database.

Built-in marketing analytics show the results in real time from the start of a campaign through the Campaign Dashboard.

Direct Smile’s UK distributor Transeomedia was also present on the show stand, with staff including Alex Granat, the company’s new commercial director for UK and Ireland. He’s been in the printing industry for a long time, having worked with the early soft proofing pioneer RealTimeImage in the late 1990s and subsequently Kodak after it took over the product.

‘DirectSmile Cross Media Version 5 is sure to create a huge buzz at the show, said Mr Granat. ‘Its user-friendly design allows anyone to produce a cross-media marketing campaign, even if they have no prior programming or HTML knowledge. As such, it presents a fantastic opportunity for brand owners and marketing professionals to generate sophisticated, personalised, targeted marketing materials that span all communication channels and media. I would go so far as to describe it as the most powerful enabling technology available today for marketeers and in-house corporate departments.’
