The range of programs available in Adobe’s Creative Cloud subscription service has been extended to include the Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) Single Edition for iPads.

This allows brochures and the like that have been set up in Adobe InDesign to be converted and delivered via the Apple App Store, with no need for code to be written by the designers.

Anyone with a subscription to Creative Cloud can now download the DPS Single Edition with no increase to the monthly fee (£38.11 assuming you sign up for a year)

There are several levels of Digital Publishing Suite. The original version, for large enterprises, was launched a couple of years ago and is pretty well POA. The mid-level Professional version is for ‘small to medium sized publishers’ and costs £4162.32 per annum.

Last year the company added the DPS Single Edition, originally for outright purchase at £235. This is intended for ‘single-issue content,’ such as marketing material, brochures, product guides or personal design portfolios. Apps can be previewed on an iPad and when complete, submitted to the Apple App store through Apple’s standard app submission process (which has to be paid for). The Professional Edition is more suited to regular periodicals such as newspapers and magazines, as it includes provision for fast-track approval by Adobe.

If you buy the Single Edition outright it can be used with either InDesign CS5 or CS6. Creative Cloud subscribers get InDesign CS6 as part of the package.
