The Kings Lynn branch of Minuteman Press has upgraded its old Duplo DBM-150 booklet system with a new DBM-350 Digital model.

Installed in October 2022, the booklet-maker was purchased as the print and design centre started to add more booklet products to its online portfolio.

Keith Boyce, managing director of Minuteman Press, said, ‘The Duplo 350 Digital was chosen as it was the best fit for the volumes we projected going forward, based on current and future forecasts. It also gave us improved make-readies and speeds allowing us to meet our own service standard that we set ourselves to support the needs of our customers for shorter lead times. It replaces our older 150 model which is Duplo’s entry level machine, but we still use it as a back up to the new one. It’s so small that we can just tuck it away, it doesn’t take up any room.

‘Since day one of the installation the new booklet system has dramatically improved productivity and reduced costs, it has also delivered a quality improvement to our full range of booklet products. As for our business, it’s essential. It’s just so much more efficient, this also complements the automation gains we are making across the whole business as the demands of W2P become more demanding on the print process as volumes increase with an expectation of same day production.

‘The automation on the booklet system means we can push so many more jobs through the machine we are able to make good on our excellent rate of goods delivered per day. We deal with a mixture of local businesses to the Kings Lynn area plus several national brand owners and Fortune 500 companies, we supply e-commerce print and fulfillment services, this can have a requirement to manufacture up to 3000 individual orders per day, the customers that are local businesses will require anything from marketing, stationery, print display, apparel, and promotional items.’

Craig Harry, regional sales manager for Duplo UK said, ‘The DBM-350 Digital booklet system perfectly complements Keith’s set-up. The solution enables them to offer a wide range of products, plus the job changes are automatic with no manual intervention. This means that they can process online orders and out the door in record time.’
