Coventry-based wide format printer The Big Ink Tank says its decision to switch to Agfa Anapurna equipment is allowing it to ‘work smarter’, offer new products and position itself as an environmentally-friendly supplier.

The 3.2m Anapurna H3200 UV LED printer was installed at the company in August this year, and is run by Agfa’s Asanti workflow, which was also an important factor in the decision to switch from an alternative supplier to Agfa.

Business owner Ty Power commented: ‘We’d built the business to a place where we were looking to invest in a new machine, as opposed to second-hand, and all the benefits that can bring. The Anapurna H3200 LED is perfect for us and at an affordable price, but with my repro background it was the Asanti workflow that completely sold it to me. It’s just so intuitive.’

Agfa spent a year discussing the installation with The Big Ink Tank, taking it to visit similar customers so that it was able to ask questions of existing users.

‘We appreciated the way Agfa dealt with the sale; there was no hard sell, their team just invested time to understand our business,’ Mr Power continued. ‘Whilst it was a big decision, each day it proves to me that it was the right one, both in terms of quality and the speed of support we get when needed.’

The Anapurna H3200 is a hybrid system, enabling printing of rigid board and roll-to-roll jobs. It is fitted with air-cooled UV LED lights that save energy, costs and time, and allow printing on heat-sensitive materials. The Asanti workflow is helping the company to batch jobs together for quicker turnaround, while the Anapurna’s white ink capability increases the range of work that The Big Ink Tank can offer.

‘I think that the board suppliers will start to come under pressure to consider the ecological effect of the materials we print on, especially materials that are used for short periods and then thrown to waste,’ said Mr Power. ‘Here at The Big Ink Tank we’ll be ready for this drive with our latest investment.’
