Jonathan Padley, managing director of Kalas

Lincolnshire-based Kalas Packaging initially purchased a Duran AllPro folder-gluer to work in tandem with its newly-installed HP 30000 printing system, but has found other uses for the device.

Manufactured by Duran Machina, the Omega AllPro 70 folder-gluer was supplied by UK & Ireland agent Friedheim International to support Kalas’ special product offering to the horticulture sector.

‘The business is all about turnaround times – days not weeks – hence the decision on the HP system, ably supported by the AllPro,’ explained Jonathan Padley, managing director of Kalas. ‘However, the AllPro is so flexible that it is also proving its worth tackling products destined for the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, some of which are very bespoke, and this development has come as an unexpected bonus.

‘Another reason why we chose the Duran Omega AllPro folder-gluer is its in-line Braille facility, which is not available in this configuration on most other similar types of machines,’ continued Mr Padley. ‘The reason we chose the 70 version of the Allpro was for the 720mm sheet size that it can handle, which is what the bulk of our production is based on.

‘It is simple to set up and operate, is ideal for short-run jobs; [and] highly productive,’ he added. ‘I can confidently say that it is the right machine for the right market and we are pleased with the decision to purchase.’
