The Ducati in its new supercar-emulating livery

South East-based Key2 Group designed and printed bespoke vehicle livery for a motorbike-vs-McLaren challenge aired on National Geographic.

Key2 Group, which already brands all the Ducati racing bikes for the Moto Rapido Ducati team, was approached by Shine North TV to design bespoke motorbike livery for an episode of Supercar Megabuild. The programme features a different supercar each week and then attempts to pitch its powers against another vehicle; in this case, a McLaren P1 vs a Ducati racing bike.

To make the Ducati superbike, supplied by Moto Rapido, look similar to the black and white P1, Key2 Group used its Mimaki JV300-160 wide-format eco-solvent inkjet printer to print the bike wrap onto MacTac TuningFilm 829 in 00 BF Stellar White.

‘The Ducati in its original colour

The TV production company spent a day with the Key2 Group team and filmed the bespoke vinyls being designed, printed and applied to the previously all-black superbike – which had already been modified with carbon fibre elements to ensure it was aerodynamic enough to attempt to outrace the McLaren.*

‘It was very exciting to have a TV production crew here,’ said Mike Keating, managing director. ‘We have so many exciting state-of-the-art print machines here that they found it really interesting. The crew and Dan [Baruffo], the presenter, were keen to film on our mezzanine print level as well as in our workshop where Lee Richards, from our print team, applied the bespoke colour-matched pearl white vinyls to the bike to make it look like a McLaren.’
