UK-based manufacturer and supplier of specialist hot stamping foils Foilco has been acquired by Washin, a Japanese manufacturer specialising in hot stamping foils for decorative applications in the plastics sector as well as technical coatings.
The companies first established contact in 2025, when Foilco directors Matt and Paul Hornby met representatives from Washin. According to the announcement, the discussions highlighted shared ambitions for growth and a mutual alignment in technical expertise and business approach.
Foilco’s directors said they had previously been approached by other businesses but had remained selective about potential partnerships, emphasising the importance of finding a company that aligned with their long-term outlook and recognised the value of Foilco’s operations in the north of England.
Paul Hornby commented: “Washin are exactly that partner. The move creates real opportunity for both businesses”.
The acquisition is expected to expand Foilco’s product offering, providing access to Washin’s portfolio of more than 3000 colours and over 300 grade formulations.
Matt Hornby said: “The product range is an incredible resource, and their philosophy aligns closely with our own – delivering bespoke colours and technically advanced grades that meet every application in our industry with optimum results”.
Foilco said that becoming part of a larger group would provide additional stability and support future growth, while strengthening its position when working with major global brands.
For Washin, the acquisition represents a step forward in its international expansion strategy. While the company already operates in some markets outside Japan, Foilco is expected to provide a stronger platform for broader global reach.
Shin Nakamichi, chief executive of Washin, said: “We are delighted to welcome Foilco into the Washin Group. Foilco have expertise in international marketing, distribution and sales, Washin have the expertise in manufacturing. A perfect combination.”
The companies described the deal as marking the beginning of a new phase for Foilco.
