Shiremoor Press has installed a Konica Minolta AccurioPress C7090, supplied by SOS, to increase capacity in a variety of applications including proofing and short-run production of folding cartons, while also carrying out a complete colour audit to match output across digital, wide-format and offset presses.

The Newcastle-based business describes itself as a general commercial printer but aims to handle as many different types of work as it can in-house. Application flexibility was a key consideration in the selection of the KM press, with its support for long-sheet working and ability to duplex on materials up to 400gsm enabling six-page A4 and carton production respectively.

Quality and and consistency were also among the criteria for the press, with operations director Joe Burke describing the former as ‘exceptional’, adding, ‘but most importantly those results can be achieved quickly, reliably and consistently. We specified the C7090 with KM’s IQ-501 unit, which offers fast set ups and will colour correct on-the-fly, and also offers back-to-back registration which has been an issue in the past.’

A colour specialist from SOS also reviewed the company’s prepress, CtP, offset and digital presses to calibrate the entire operation to Fogra 51 standard. ‘As it happens, the Konica Minolta was the most accurate machine – SOS made sure the rest of our output was up to the same standard,’ noted Mr Burke, adding that ‘SOS is a reliable partner – they are always happy to take a call, they don’t just supply kit, they help us as a business.’
