Little CMS has launched calc ICC, a professional ICC colour conversion tool for iPhone and iPad, designed to give print and colour professionals access to colour calculations away from their main workstation.
The Barcelona-based developer, which produces the open-source Little CMS colour management engine, said the app is intended for situations where users need to quickly check how a colour will reproduce on press, verify a spot colour or investigate a profile-related issue.
calc ICC allows users to import their own ICC profiles and perform colour conversions using standard rendering intents and Black Point Compensation. The application also supports soft proofing and gamut checking, while CMYK-to-CMYK transformations can be carried out while preserving the original ink formula.
“ICC color conversion is normally hidden inside larger applications and workflows,” said Marti Maria, creator of Little CMS. “Sometimes you just need to know what a particular profile does with a color. calc ICC gives you a practical way to make that calculation wherever you are.”
All colour processing takes place locally on the iPhone or iPad, meaning ICC profiles and colour data are not sent to an external service.
The application builds on the Little CMS open-source colour management engine, which has been in use for more than 20 years. The technology is embedded in a range of open-source and commercial printing, imaging and colour management applications. Little CMS estimates that the engine has between 50 million and 200 million installations worldwide.
calc ICC is the first product in a new range of professional Little CMS applications being developed alongside the existing open-source project.
The app will be available worldwide for iPhone and iPad from 15 September 2026.
