Fujifilm is using inkjet technology from the Jet Press 720S in an automated production system in partnership with Epac.

Fujifilm has revealed a partnership with US company Epac Technologies to create an automated digital print production system, which will be previewed at drupa.

E2 is the name for Epac’s non-linear automated production system. This is a combination of printing and finishing systems with industrial robots controlled by proprietary software. It promises short run, fully automated zero-waste production.

The companies claim to have systems in use in Europe, the US and Latin America that incorporate Fujifilm’s Jet Press technology, using a new ink, with Epac’s E2 systems.

Fujifilm also announced that it is using the 1200dpi inkjet printheads used in the sheetfed B2 Jet Press 720S in a roll-fed printer, offering high image quality on standard paper.

The two developments of ‘true offset quality in digital printing’ and ‘game-changing print automation’ are two parts of what the firm terms its 5D printing strategy. The other three are offset printing, digital printing and 3D printing.

The company promises to provide further details on 1 June about new technologies using its inkjet technologies.
