Wesley Urban, print manager, with the Fastbind Casematic casemaker from Ashgate

Austin Macauley Publishers’ new in-house short run printing department has installed a Fastbind Casematic H46Pro casemaker from Ashgate Automation for hardback book production.

Typically, 40% of Austin Macauley’s books are hard back, which are made on the casemaker, rolled through the company’s Easymount, and then glued on a Fastbind Elite XT hot melt binder.

‘We’ve been in full production from the start and, looking at the amount of work we are putting through the Ashgate equipment, it should pay for itself within six months,’ said Wesley Urban, print manager. ‘We are being complimented on the vibrancy of the colour print we can produce in-house. This, together with the overall quality of the books, their covers and the faster turnaround times has also pleased our authors.’

As part of its investment, the company also purchased Ricoh digital presses, a Perfecta guillotine, Vivid Matrix laminator and a Horizon BQ270 perfect binder.
