Canon has launched the ColorStream 7000 series, a new family of web-fed inkjet presses aimed at print service providers operating in the mid-range production segment.

The new range builds on Canon’s established ColorStream platform, which this year marks its 15th anniversary and has surpassed 2000 installations worldwide. Designed for applications including business communications, books and direct mail, the ColorStream 7000 series is intended to provide a scalable production platform that can adapt to changing customer requirements.

The range comprises three models – the ColorStream 7075, 7100 and 7127 – with production speeds ranging from 48 to 127 metres per minute and monthly volumes of up to 56 million A4 impressions. Systems are available in both monochrome and full-colour configurations, allowing users to match current production needs while retaining the option to expand capabilities over time.

The presses use Canon’s latest web-fed inkjet architecture, combining native 600dpi printheads with water-based inks and DigiDot multi-level inkjet technology. Canon states this delivers perceived 1200dpi print quality on standard offset uncoated, recycled and inkjet-treated papers. The series shares the same core print technologies as the ColorStream 6000 range, providing continuity for existing users.

To support long production runs, the presses feature a water-cooled printhead design to maintain stable ink temperatures, while Canon’s pre-fire technology is designed to help maintain nozzle performance. The systems also incorporate Canon’s colour management tools to support colour consistency across jobs.

The ColorStream 7000 series integrates with Canon’s PRISMA workflow ecosystem and supports optional use of PRISMAproduction and the cloud-based PRISMAlytics Dashboard for workflow management, performance monitoring and production analysis. Features such as waste-free print pause, inspection mode and controlled print-in-ramps are intended to reduce paper waste and improve production efficiency.

Sharing its core technical infrastructure with the ColorStream 8000 series, the new platform includes Canon’s SRA Massive Parallel controller, which the company says improves RIP performance and provides a scalable route for future upgrades, including transitions from monochrome to colour production.

Duncan Smith, country director, production at Canon UK & Ireland, said: “In the mid-range production volume segment, customers are not looking for promises – they are looking for proven performance they can build a business on. That is where the ColorStream 7000 series stands apart. It brings together the trusted quality and reliability of the ColorStream platform with the service, workflow integration and flexibility print service providers need to compete with confidence. Built through close collaboration with customers and informed by more than 2,000 installations worldwide, it gives businesses focused on business communications, book and direct mail applications a future-ready platform for consistent performance today and a clear path to grow over time.”

The ColorStream 7000 series is available immediately across EMEA directly from Canon.
