Minnetonka-based print service provider Pixelwerx has installed a Nyala 5 flatbed printer from swissQprint, as part of an effort to expand production capabilities and improve efficiency.
The company, which provides large-format print services for retail, cosmetics and premium product brands, said the investment reflects increasing demand for more complex and higher-quality applications. These include varnish embellishments, dimensional printing and consistent colour reproduction, alongside expectations for shorter turnaround times.
“We needed to raise the bar on quality while increasing throughput,” said Adam Carver, president of Pixelwerx. “The Nyala allows us to do both.”
The new flatbed printer, manufactured in Switzerland, measures 127.5 × 79.9in and has been installed to complement existing equipment while replacing some older systems. It enables direct-to-substrate printing and is capable of producing up to 2723sqft/hr which can reduce the need for multi-step processes such as printing and mounting.
According to the company, the system also supports a wider range of applications, including textured prints, braille and other dimensional effects. Pixelwerx said its internal teams and external partners are exploring how these capabilities can be incorporated into retail and experiential projects.
Mr Carver noted that customer interest in the new system began prior to installation. “We saw immediate interest, including new business we hadn’t accessed before,” he said, adding that the company expects the platform to support further growth in both production volume and higher-value applications.
Alongside expanding its service offering, Pixelwerx said it is working towards simplifying its production environment by consolidating multiple technologies into fewer systems. “We’re aiming for fewer systems that can do more,” Mr Carver said. “That increases efficiency and helps us build deeper expertise.”
