West Yorkshire wide-format printer Leading Edge Signage & Graphics has invested in a Agfa Tauro H3300S 3.2m UV inkjet, bringing additional capacity, better quality at higher print speeds and energy savings.

The business, which is based near Wakefield, is forecasting a £5 million turnover this year, adding almost £2 million in the last 12 months. It serves customers in retail and construction amongst other sectors, and employs 42 staff to provide a complete design, print/construction and installation service across the UK.

While pivoting to Covid-related products during the pandemic, Leading Edge continues to invest, spending over £1 million in the past year to keep its offerings up to spec. The new Agfa printer was part of that investment, explained graphics production manager Andrew Gallagher:

‘The new Tauro comes with all the latest technology, such as UV LED lamps reducing the heat and energy output and it prints on both roll-to-roll and rigid materials. But most importantly, it gives us better print quality at a much higher speed and we are now planning to run the engine 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All the print we used to place on two printers can now be done on the new Tauro and that will increase with the introduction of a night shift.’

Already an Agfa site, Mr Gallagher confirmed that it was the complete offering including Asanti workflow software, and service and support operation in addition to the quality of the printers themselves that made it an obvious choice to stay with the supplier.

‘Our plan for the future is all about growth and diversity of product/service offering and we’d ideally like that to be aided by a second Tauro print engine at some stage,’ he noted.
