Cambridge-based Rutters has installed a Canon Colorado 1650 gel inkjet printer supplied by CMYUK in order to keep up with growth in demand for its signage and portable display products.

The family business dates back to the 1950s and now specialises in digitally printed products that include wallpapers, carpets, construction hoardings, building wraps, and backdrops for the entertainment industry, and is particularly notes for its day-and-night translight displays.

‘As a business we are expanding and we had the need to invest in a new printer due to an increase in demand for our services,’ said managing director Paul Rutter. The company evaluated several printers including HP Latex technology with white ink but opted for the Canon Colorado 1650.

‘Our ever-increasing workloads, particularly in the fields for what the Colorado is renowned for meant that its capabilities were best suited to our expanding needs,’ adds Mr Rutter. ‘It offered more advantages than its competitors, including a matt and gloss print option.’ The different finishes, achieved by variable UV curing, suit different applications, with the matt ones being favoured for indoor uses such as PoS and wallcoverings. The Colorado’s front-to-back register in double-sided printing was also a factor in its favour.
