EFI used Fespa to launch a new true flatbed wide-format printer, the Pro 30f, and to unveil an update to its fiery DFE range.

Filling a gap in the range for a high productivity flatbed, the Pro 30f is a 2x3m unit that offers double CMYK plus white ink and the ability to print on media up to 10cm thick at up to 210sqm/hr in express mode. It uses 1200dpi Ricoh Gen5 printheads and variable drop size down to 7pl to achieve what EFI describes as ‘near-photographic’ quality on a variety of substrates. It is scheduled to ship by the end of September 2019.

Via the use of GPU acceleration the Fiery ProServer Premium 7.1 doubles the processing power available and therefore halves RIPping time for EFI’s wide-format printers and over 70 models from other vendors.

The accompanying software update supports Fiery Intensity, a colour management mode that can use a printer/ink/substrate combination’s full colour gamut to increase ‘pop’ or saturation in colour images without sacrificing smoothness in graduated tones. Improved control over tiling/nesting should optimise substrate consumption, and finishing equipment integration, plus the ability to link the the printers to EFI’s MIS software will help overall productivity.
