Roland DG has launched its TrueVis MG2 Series, a new generation of UV printer/cutters comprising the MG2-640 and MG2-300.

The range succeeds the previous MG Series and features a newly developed printhead and waveform control technology, which Roland DG says delivers approximately twice the productivity of its predecessor.

The MG2 Series supports CMYK printing with optional orange and red inks to extend the available colour gamut and Pantone coverage. It also incorporates Variable Dot Technology and Roland DG’s True Rich Color settings, designed to combine vivid colour reproduction with natural skin tones and neutral greys.

A key feature is single-pass multi-layer printing, allowing users to print up to five layers simultaneously using combinations of CMYK, white and gloss inks. This enables applications incorporating white undercoats, gloss finishes and textured or embossed effects without the need to reverse-feed media between layers.

The printers also include 72 built-in texture libraries and an integrated take-up system, with potential applications including window graphics, backlit displays, stickers, labels, packaging prototypes, promotional materials and decorative graphics.

Integrated Print & Cut functionality enables printing and contour cutting within a single workflow. The MG2 Series is also compatible with Roland DG, Summa and Graphtec cutting devices.

Other changes include new 1000ml ink pouches, automated media set-up and calibration, Direct Print functionality and an automatic fabric wiper intended to reduce routine maintenance requirements.

The printers are supported by Roland DG’s VersaWorks 7 RIP software and Roland DG Connect, which provides remote device monitoring, production analytics and business information.

Ryugo Nimura, executive officer, Global Sales and Marketing Division at Roland DG, said: “The MG2 Series has been developed to help print businesses capture new opportunities in the growing UV market.

“By combining approximately twice the productivity of the previous generation with outstanding image quality, advanced multi-layer capabilities, integrated Print & Cut functionality and lower running costs, the MG2 Series enables customers to produce higher-value applications more efficiently while increasing profitability. We believe it represents one of the most compelling solutions available in the mid-range UV printer/cutter market today.”
