Denmaur Independent Papers has announced that Mike Gee will retire at the end of 2026, bringing to a close a 56-year career in the paper industry.
Mr Gee, who founded Denmaur more than 40 years ago, will retire from the company with effect from 31 December 2026. He plans to spend more time travelling and with friends and family.
His career began during the heyday of Fleet Street and Bloomsbury, when the area was at the centre of the UK media and communications industry. Mr Gee went on to work for paper mills, merchants and a paper converter merchant before establishing Denmaur in 1980 with the support of his wife and brother, Nick.
During his career, he has become a well-known figure across the paper sector and has been closely involved with its social side. According to Denmaur, he regards the many different people he has met during his career as among its highlights.
The company said: “We are sure that his colleagues, customers and suppliers will all join us in wishing Mike a long, healthy and happy retirement.”
Denmaur has also announced changes to its senior management team as part of the transition. Andy Buxton has become chief executive officer, while Andy Faithful has been promoted to managing director.
The pair will work alongside Denmaur’s board of directors and wider team as the business responds to changes within the economy and paper market.
Denmaur said: “Together with the Board of Directors and wider Denmaur Team, we are confident that Denmaur will continue to evolve and rise the challenges of a changing economic market and paper industry.”
