CAI Software has acquired Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) software provider PlanetTogether, adding production scheduling and capacity planning technology to its manufacturing software portfolio.

The acquisition strengthens CAI’s offering across manufacturing sectors, including graphic communications, by bringing together PlanetTogether’s APS platform with CAI’s existing enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution system (MES), and shop-floor software.

PlanetTogether’s software is designed to help manufacturers improve production planning by reducing the time needed to replan schedules, optimising capacity across multiple sites, and allowing users to model different production scenarios before changes are implemented.

Brent Pietrzak, CEO of CAI, said: “Our customers have been asking for advanced planning and scheduling capabilities they can trust alongside the ERP, MES, and shop-floor solutions they already rely on CAI for. Welcoming the team and their products into CAI deepens what we can offer manufacturers across our 15 plus core industries.”

PlanetTogether will continue to operate as a standalone product under the new name CAI PlanetTogether. CAI said it will continue investing in the platform’s development, including AI capabilities, advanced analytics, and cloud technologies through its research and development team.

Jim Cerra, founder of PlanetTogether, said: “I am proud of what the PlanetTogether team has built and grateful to our customers for their trust along the way. Joining CAI gives our customers and team the resources, scale, and industry depth to accelerate what we started, and I have full confidence in CAI to lead the next chapter.”

Headquartered in San Diego, PlanetTogether develops APS software for both process and discrete manufacturers, with customers spanning sectors including food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, chemicals, and industrial manufacturing. Its software combines constraint-based scheduling, what-if simulation, and ERP integration to support production planning in multi-plant environments.

CAI has more than 45 years of experience developing software for manufacturing businesses and serves customers across more than 15 industries in over 10 countries. The company said its platforms are designed to replace disconnected processes with integrated digital workflows that improve operational visibility, compliance, and decision-making.
