Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (PCS) has introduced the Smart Material Handler (SMH), a modular sheet-handling solution designed to improve workflow efficiency in digital cutting applications, including sign, display, folding carton, and corrugated production.
The SMH consists of a loading table, with an optional underside camera for automated registration detection, and an offloading table. Together, they extend the Kongsberg cutting table to semi-automate material handling, allowing for simultaneous sheet processing and reloading. The system is intended to reduce manual labour by enabling one operator to manage tasks that would typically require two.
The loading table is designed for rigid substrates but can be swapped for a roll feeder to accommodate flexible materials, supporting faster changeovers. The unit can be configured in both portrait and landscape orientations, depending on production needs.
On the output side, the offloading table is fixed at a 12-degree angle and includes integrated stoppers to securely manage finished materials. This design aims to reduce handling errors and support consistent unloading.
“The Smart Material Handler expands our automation portfolio and is designed to reduce operator requirements while improving production flow,” said Stuart Fox, president and CEO of Kongsberg PCS.
The Smart Material Handler is compatible with all bed sizes of the Kongsberg C-series and Ultimate series cutting tables. It is also available as a retrofit for existing installations.
