Instabilelab, an Italian specialist in high-end wallpaper, fabric, and rug production, has upgraded its workflow with a Miura Katana automatic XY cutter from Flexa. The installation is aimed at improving both the precision and efficiency of its wallpaper manufacturing process.
The Miura Katana’s key appeal lies in its ability to deliver clean, consistent cuts that eliminate one of the most common issues in wallpaper installation: visible white lines between panels, said the company. According to production manager Stefano Marin, the machine’s angled V-cutting system means installers no longer need to manually touch up seams, ensuring a seamless wall effect straight from the roll.
“Cutting quality is outstanding,” said Mr Marin. “The dual rollers keep material taut, eliminating wrinkles or imperfections, and the result is always flawless, no matter the material.”
Previously, Instabilelab’s cutting stage required close supervision to maintain tolerances and account for any deformation caused during printing. With the Miura Katana, that level of attention is no longer necessary, as the system ensures precise results throughout the entire roll length.
Installation and training were completed in just a day, thanks to on-site support from Flexa president Massimo Vettorazzo. “By the next day, the machine was operating at 100%,” said Mr Marin, noting the system’s intuitive user interface and digital blade adjustment display.
Cutting 60–80m rolls now takes around 15 minutes instead of 20–25 with the company’s previous setup, with reduced defects and material waste. Mr Marin also praised the machine’s reliability, which allows for uninterrupted production runs.
Instabilelab officially debuted the results at Salone del Mobile 2025 furniture fair in Milan this April, where it showcased 5m-high graphics on various substrates – all installed without need for correction or touch-up.
“We are proud to be the first in our industry to adopt Miura Katana,” said Mr Marin. “It’s a one-of-a-kind technology and Flexa has proven to be a truly supportive partner throughout.”
