Canon has announced a series of updates to its Colorado and Arizona large format printer platforms, aimed at expanding application potential and improving operator productivity.

The Colorado M-series roll-to-roll printer, using Canon’s UVgel technology, now supports media up to 1.6mm thick—doubling its previous capacity. This broadens opportunities for applications such as interior décor and vehicle magnets. A new Magnetic Media Kit enables printing on stronger magnetic substrates.

Canon has also introduced features designed to support the growing soft signage market, including easier roll loading through guided user interface steps and two new multi-layer print modes: Matte Density and Backlit High Density. These enhancements aim to reduce waste and improve backlit image quality.

Other improvements include automation tools for UVgel Factory configurations, such as a new I/O interface for integration with inline finishing equipment and a light tension bar for more reliable rewinding of large rolls. A connectivity monitoring tool has also been added to help reduce downtime.

The Arizona flatbed printer series now comes with a standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty. The latest version of Prismaelevate XL software introduces new creative possibilities, such as media-free ink-only printing for items like business cards and promotional objects. A new braille effect feature also allows for ADA signage production, printing tactile dots up to 1mm high.

Both platforms benefit from software updates in the Prisma XL Suite. Prismaguide XL 3.5 adds better Mac OS support and improves workflow efficiency, while also giving operators easier access to training resources and sample files for advanced effects like FLXture.

Stuart Rising, head of graphic arts at Canon UK and Ireland, said: “The latest enhancements we’re announcing build directly on customer feedback and market insights. We’re making it easier for our customers to enter the high-growth soft signage market while improving overall productivity and uptime.”

All Colorado enhancements are delivered via remote software update, with no hardware changes needed. Prismaguide XL 3.5 and Prismaelevate XL 2.2 are also available as separate updates
