Alpha Colour Printers in Gloucestershire has installed a new Heidelberg Versafire LV digital press, along with the Prinect workflow system. The investment is to increase production efficiency and expand the firm’s digital capabilities.

Managing director of Alpha Colour Printers Amy Muldrew said the long-standing partnership with Heidelberg played a key role in the company’s decision. “Most of our other printing machinery is also Heidelberg, and over the years we’ve come to trust their commitment to innovation, reliability, and the exceptional quality they deliver,” she commented.

The Versafire LV delivers speeds of up to 3180 A3 sheets per hour and supports a range of substrates up to 470gsm. It complements Alpha Colour’s existing litho presses and forms part of the firm’s hybrid print strategy, aimed at delivering high-volume jobs with quick turnarounds.

The system’s integration with Heidelberg’s Prinect front-end has enabled streamlined job management, reduced setup times and greater workflow automation. “Prinect has also made a huge impact on how we work, providing a streamlined and efficient workflow for our team and allowing us to manage jobs easily and track production progress in real time,” said Ms Muldrew.

A standout feature of the Versafire LV for the team has been the ability to offer neon ink printing digitally for the first time. Ms Muldrew added: “Prinect integration has resulted in less manual input and fewer errors, enabling our staff to focus on high-quality print production for our customers.”

Alpha Colour Printers, which was established in 1979 and operates from a 24,000sqft factory, serves clients including advertising agencies, local authorities and educational institutions.
