William Smith has made Avery Dennison’s updated MPI 1103 EA Smart Wrap+ film available to customers, following a reworking of the product’s adhesive designed to improve repositioning during installation.

The 50-micron white cast wrapping film retains the construction of the existing MPI 1103 but now features a re-engineered adhesive offering lower initial tack. According to the supplier, this allows installers more time to align graphics and reposition the film after initial contact with a surface.

The change is intended to be particularly useful when applying graphics to warm or complex surfaces, where the previous version of the film held firmly on first contact. The updated adhesive allows the material to be moved back into position with light pressure rather than having to be lifted away and reapplied.

The digitally printable cast film features a grey adhesive for opacity and is compatible with Latex, UV and eco-solvent digital ink systems. Avery Dennison has combined the revised adhesive with an updated liner and its Easy Apply technology.

“Every installer has had the moment when the film lands slightly out of position and refuses to move. This version provides a brief window to lift and realign it, and across a full vehicle those seconds add up to real time saved,” says Lindsay Hutchinson, head of marketing at William Smith Group 1832.

MPI 1103 EA Smart Wrap+ is designed for applications including full vehicle wraps on fleet cars, vans and trucks, as well as surfaces featuring deep channels, corrugations and rivets. Its 3D conformability is intended to allow installers to work on these surfaces without incisions or primers. The film can also be used for outdoor advertising on curved surfaces.

“We expect this to become a popular choice for installers who spend their days on curves and rivets rather than on flat sides. It takes a film the trade already trusts and makes the most difficult part of the work considerably easier,” added Ms Hutchison.
