Mimaki Europe will mark its 50th anniversary at Formnext 2025 (18–21 November, Messe Frankfurt). The company says it will showcase how its full-colour, UV-curable 3D printing technology bridges past and future applications across art, fashion, medicine, architecture, and product development.

A key feature will be a collaboration with SmartTech3D, a specialist in high-precision scanning. The partnership demonstrates how 3D scanning and printing can be combined to create accurate, museum-grade replicas of artefacts. SmartTech’s scanning captures the shape and colour of heritage objects, which are then reproduced using Mimaki’s full-colour 3D printers. The approach allows museums to preserve original pieces while displaying or handling realistic replicas. Visitors to Mimaki’s stand will be able to explore the full “scan-to-print” workflow and view examples of these replicas.

“This year we’re spotlighting how 3D printing intersects with history and heritage,” said Arjen Evertse, director sales at Mimaki Europe. “Our partnership with SmartTech3D is an exciting example of how the high accuracy and full-colour capabilities of 3D printing can be leveraged to produce true-to-life 3D replicas.”

Mimaki will also present “Eros-Thanatos”, a striking sculpture by post-digital artist humanoise (Taketo Kobayashi), created using 3D-scanned data of ancient Japanese pottery. The work merges historical and futuristic elements, highlighting the creative potential of Mimaki’s 3DUJ-2207 full-colour printer, which can produce more than 10 million colours and fine detail using water-soluble support material.

“Formnext is where ideas take shape – and with Mimaki’s full-colour 3D printing, we are proving that even the past can be reimagined in vivid detail,” Mr Evertse added.

Mimaki’s full-colour 3D printing systems are available in the UK and Ireland through distributor Hybrid Services.
