A three-day event running from 27 – 29 September 2022 at Horizon’s refurbished showroom in Quickborn, Germany, will provide the first European demonstration of new finishing equipment from the Japanese manufacturer, whose equipment is sold exclusively in the UK and Ireland through IFS.

The Finishing First 2022 event will aim to highlight how increased automation and digitisation can support new business approaches in finishing, including robotics and control via Horizon’s IceLink software.

The live presentations will include the Ice StitchLiner Mark V, which brings increased productivity and flatter finished booklets at expanded formats including A4 landscape and large format calendars, the former at more than 5000 booklets per hour. The Ice Binder BQ-500 with ESF-1000 end sheet tipping machine, LBF loose sheet book block feeder and GF-500 gauze feeder combination provides for case binding preparation built on the BQ-470 and BQ-480 binders, with a range of automated sections from cycle and milling speed to roller height and guide positioning. The new AFV-566FKT is a fully automated cross-folder designed to handle a wide variety of paper substrates and applications, with up to 20% faster changeover than its predecessor. All three systems include Horizon’s cloud-based Ice Link automation which gives dashboard-based access to production information and analysis, remote updating and scheduled maintenance.

Also to be featured is the RD-4055DMC rotary die-cutter for label, packaging and converting use at 6000cph. It can handle materials up to 500 microns thick, which it can also crease, kiss-cut, emboss or perforate. A ‘repeat register’ function allows smaller dies to be stepped and repeated for the production of smaller items, savings on costs of die production.

Attendees will hear keynote talks from industry experts and daily panel discussions. There will also be a company update from the Horizon team and exclusive networking opportunities with over 100 decision-makers per day from the German and European printing and media industry.

‘This is a great opportunity to see the latest Horizon systems designed to help operations minimise production costs effectively while managing an increasingly broad range of products and run lengths,’ commented IFS managing director Eric Keane. ‘The fully-automated, easy to set up, simple to operate systems enable the delivery of high-quality results quickly. They allow operations to invest in future-proofed solutions that improve operational capabilities while opening up new possibilities.’
