A little under a year since it announced the SX30000 web-fed toner press, Xeikon has added a junior version, the SX20000, another five-colour duplexing press based on the company’s Sirius technology, offering output at up to the equivalent of 1700 B2 sheets per hour.

The new press runs at 20m/min compared to the SX30000’s 30m/min, but offers the same 1200 x 3600dpi resolution and imaging quality and registration control features, and prints to a maximum width of 508mm on the same range of substrates. It is also upgradeable for both speed and number of colour stations – as with the SX30000, four stations is standard with an option for five. It is also driven by Xeikon’s X-800 workflow for high levels of automation.

Xeikon notes the resurgence in book printing in the last couple of years and suggests that its web-fed technology combines printed image quality and substrate choice with the format flexibility of roll printing. The fifth colour option it sees as being attractive in direct mail work, where accurate brand colour reproduction may be required. Other applications envisaged include PoS materials, security print and general commercial work. Overall, Xeikon claims that its Sirius technology gives the ‘widest application and substrate range combined with lower running costs and a compelling overall total cost of ownership’.

Dimitri Van Gaever, market segment director at Xeikon, stated, ‘In today’s printing world, we all know it’s about delivering value which encompasses quality, performance, sustainability and competitive pricing. With the launch of the Xeikon SX20000, Xeikon is offering printers in the graphic arts and commercial markets an investment opportunity – a press with unequalled capabilities at an attractive investment level.

‘Many printers working in the graphic arts and commercial print markets are aware that they need to streamline their operation, reduce their TCO, increase productivity and uptime and also review their equipment. Printers looking for new revenue streams and considering a broader range of applications may be restricted because of printing equipment limitations. Our single-pass duplex press is unique, designed to maximise and deliver a market leading performance and unequalled sustainability.’

The SX20000 is available by the end of Q1 2021 and is available for remote demonstration from Xeikon’s Global Innovation Centre in Antwerp.
