A pair of 1.6m UV LED curing printers has been announced by Mutoh, offering roll-fed or hybrid capability with a choice of ink sets for different applications that include CMYK plus white and clear varnish.

The ValueJet 1638UR Mk II and 1628UH Mk II respectively offer roll-fed and hybrid capabilities, the former with motorised take-up roll capacity to 100kg, the latter able to support rigid media up to 15mm thick and weighing up to 15kg, though with take-up roll support limited to 40kg. Both use dual print heads offering 1440 x 1440dpi resolution and LED curing lamps.

Imaging quality is supported through Mutoh’s new Intelligent Interweaving for reduced banding or gloss banding effects and Clear Tone screening technologies for improved gradients and skin tones. This is complemented by the capabilities of Mutoh’s Harlequin-based VerteLith Rip software which has a  number of features specifically aimed at supporting the six-colour configuration of the printers, including the ability to automatically generate layers for white and varnish from artwork via a range of pre-sets, plus soft proofing and Ripped data preview, as well as ink cost calculation.

The printers are both available in the six-colour configuration (CMYK, white, varnish) or double CMYK which increases top speed from 11.2sqm/hr to 22.7sqm/hr. Then two ink types are US11 for flexible applications, which is Greenguard Gold certified for indoor applications and compliant with European standard EN 71-3 part 3 for safety of toys, and UH21 ink for rigid substrates, which does not have these certifications.
