Morgana has introduced the SquareFold Trimmer (SFT), a module that combines square back booklet binding and trimming, either automatically for binding with a trimmed front edge, or manually for three-edge trimming plus binding.

Aimed at inplants and high street print businesses, the SFT is deigned for very simple operation in which a stapled and folded booklet is inserted in to the machine and the finished document with square folded spine and trimmed front edge emerges. An ‘operator assisted’ process allows all three non-bound edges to be trimmed if required.

Commenting on the new unit, Ray Hillhouse, general manager, UK operations, Plockmatic Group, said, ‘Whilst we have now incorporated our patented SquareFold technology into all of our market-leading booklet making systems, we felt that there was still a need in the market for a free-standing solution. The SFT unit is ideal for those smaller print operations that don’t produce the larger quantities that we normally come across to offer their customers this high-quality finish that makes any booklet stand out from the crowd.

‘Short-run booklets can easily be hand-fed into the SFT for these final finishing stages that can turn any run-of-the-mill booklet into a publication that will really get noticed.’

The SFT can handle booklets from A6 up to A4 landscape (maximum 320 x 310mm) and up to 50 sheets of 80gsm stock. It’s operated via a touch-screen interface.
