Making its show debut at next month’s Sign & Digital UK in Birmingham, Trotec’s R500 is an entry-level large format laser cutter that offers a DC CO2 laser and a working area of 1300 x 900mm.

Described as best suited to cutting applications in signage, model making and prototyping, the R500 can handle acrylics and wood up to 15mm thick, in addition to more common printed substrates such as paper and textiles. Its design is said to make loading and unloading easy, while a large viewing pane offers easy inspection of work in progress.

The first in Trotec’s line of laser cutters to feature both a glass DC laser tube for cutting performance and a stepper motor for accuracy, it’s intended to be an affordable options for a first excursion into laser cutting and engraving, or to act as an additional machine in larger installations.

Bryan Jater, national sales manager for Trotec UK, said, ‘We are delighted to be able to offer an entry level large format laser cutter to our UK customers. The R500 breaks many of the entry barriers to large format laser cutting and offers excellent results for basic cutting and engraving applications.’

A new model in the company’s higher performance range will also be unveiled at the show, but the SP2000 referenced in our event preview in the March print edition of Digital Printer will not be on display.
