Friedheim International has taken on the UK and Ireland distribution rights for Israeli manufacturer Scodix’s range of digital embellishment presses, including two recently-launched models, the Ultra 101 and the Ultra 202.

The Ultra 101, which is making its worldwide debut at the HP Indigo Global VIP customer event this month, is intended as a stepping stone into the world of digital enhancement. It is compatible with HP Indigo presses and offers six types of enhancements, including Sense, Foil, Metallic, VDE/VDP, Glitter and Cast&Cure, plus any combinations of those.

The Ultra 202 is designed to enable print providers to increase their throughput and create new business opportunities. Users can print on paper, lamination, a variety of water-based coatings, PVC and carton, enabling new applications. All nine of the Scodix applications (Braille, Crystal and Spot in addition to the above-mentioned) run on the press, replacing the need for separate systems on the production floor and preserving a small footprint.

‘We take pride in the fact that we only take on the very best manufacturers in the world,’ explained Friedheim’s managing director, Mark Bristow. ‘Scodix are the leaders in this field of digital enhancement and are the best at what they do. They’re a highly motivated company with a brilliant track record of research and development. Bringing UK print service providers and converters this technology will mean securing a lot of key contracts from their customers. A major trend is going to be companies taking more control of their services and bringing more finishing in-house. The Scodix compliments our existing manufacturers perfectly in these regards and we’re looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship.’

Mr Bristow told Digital Printer that selling the Scodix range would require some customer education, particularly trying to reach designers to make them aware of the capabilities of the devices. The work also has the potential to offer significant margins in applications ranging from direct mail to greeting cards, packaging and commercial print.

‘We are delighted to be partnering with Friedheim for the distribution of Scodix in the UK,’ added Eli Grinberg, Scodix’s general manager, EMEA. ‘Together we are set to increase our presence in this region and we are confident that Friedheim are the perfect partner. We welcome Friedheim to the growing network of the Scodix Family.’
