Flatbed wide-format printer manufacturer swissQprint has announced that it will be introducing its first roll-to-roll printer at Fespa in Munich in May 2019.

Technical specifications of the new machine are under wraps until the launch, but the company promises that it will be ‘a dedicated roll to roll printer with unique features’. It’s not stated what ink type will be used but given that the other swissQprint models are all UV-curing it seems reasonable to anticipate that this will be too. What has been revealed is its name, Karibu, which is in keeping with the current range of antelope and deer-themed names for the existing flatbed range.

Reto Eicher, swissQprint’s CEO, said, ‘Our aim with this printer is to meet current trends and give users an efficient working tool.’ The company says the new model will ’round out the machinery pool at print service providers’, perhaps in order to win back business from other vendors who already offer roll-fed alternatives.
