Specialist paper and board producer Zanders has been given a new lease of life after it was acquired out of insolvency on 1 December 2018.

The new Zanders-Paper GmbH will continue to function at its Bergisch Gladbach factory in Germany, albeit with its workforce reduced from around 450 to around 300 people. The business has been bought by a team headed by Norwegian pulp and paper businessman Terje Haglund, who has mostly been involved in Scandinavian paper operations in his nearly 20 years in the industry.

Recently he has been active operating Lessebo Paper’s woodfree uncoated paper and pulp mill acquired from insolvent Vida Paper, and earlier this year headed a group of investors that took over the former Idempapers mill at Virginal-Samme in Belgium, relaunching as Virginal Paper. It has not yet been revealed exactly who or what organisations are working with Mr Haglund on the Zanders deal.

However, insolvency administrator Dr Marc d’Avoine commented: ‘We are pleased that the acquisition will be made by paper professionals who are already very successful in the industry. The continuation of paper production at Zanders is thus assured. All know-how carriers remain on board.’

Zanders’ paper brands include Chromolux, Zanlabel and Zanpack.
