US finishing machinery specialist On Demand Machinery has partnered with Mohawk Fine Papers in making the new Sidewinder automated bindery system for producing Panoramic TRU-Flat photo books.

The system is based around the Mohawk Panoramic line of i-Tone photo papers, which incorporate pressure sensitive adhesive to allow the creation of lay-flat books. These attach single-sided printed and creased pages back-to-back to produce a book that opens completely flat across the fold and doesn’t need spine gluing. The adhesive is called ‘Tru-Flat cohesive’ and is made by Convertible Solutions.

The ODM the Sidewinder machine takes the printed Mohawk Panoramic paper sets and scores, folds, and presses them into book blocks up to 37.5 mm thick. It can produce up to 100 Panoramic photo book blocks per hour and is said to be easy to operate with no makeready needed.

The maximum book size is 675 x 362.5 mm (when opened flat) or
337.5 x 362.5 mm closed.

At drupa ODM demonstrated the Sidewinder on Mohawk Panoramic papers including the new proPhoto Panoramic Gloss Pearl finish.

Perfect Bindery Solutions is the UK distributor for ODM.
