Prizmatic Print Solutions in Burgess Hill has installed one of the new Uchida AeroCut Quatro modular finishing systems to work alongside a new Canon 9070 Pro digital printer. This new finisher was instroduced at drupa and is distributed by Morgana in the UK (see Digital Printer technical story, July 2012). Prizmatic’s machine was supplied by Apogee Corporation, a Morgana dealer.

Both the Canon printer and the AeroCut Quatro were seen in action by Neil Adshead, managing director of Prizmatic, during a a visit to drupa in May. ‘It was my first visit to the drupa show, and the exhibition was a most exciting experience,’ he said. ‘We knew that we needed a faster and more efficient print engine to service our growing digital print customer base. Having seen the engine in action at the show with our supplier, Apogee, we then realised the need to increase our finishing capacity as well. The Uchida AeroCut Quatro, as supplied by Apogee through their Morgana connection, was the logical step for us to take.’

Prizmatic had previously been using a Uchida BC10 A4-format business card cutter. ‘We knew the manufacturer, and we also knew Morgana well, having used one of their creasing products for many years,’ added Mr Adshead.

‘The fact that we can switch between jobs so easily using pre-defined templates makes moving from job to job very quick and easy. The ability to carry out creasing, cutting and perforating tasks with one simple to operate machine means that we can finish work extremely quickly – and that is what digital print production is all about.’

Mr Adshead has been has been running the Prizmatic business for the last six years, though the company was active for some 10 years prior to that producing large format and point-of-sale material. Work undertaken at the business still includes exhibition, sign-making, POS and other large format work, but also now incorporates general digital print production.

‘As part of our general commercial offering, we have created a unique kit of wedding stationery that we can print all in one pass: the personalised invite, place name, thank you card, all fit onto one printed sheet,’ said Mr Adshead. ‘The high quality print and finishing offered by our new production equipment is going to be ideal for these packages. We are currently finalising a series of standard stationery graphic designs to make the selection process even easier for the customer.’ Another piece of Uchida equipment can be used to add foiling to the print.

Ray Hillhouse, UK sales manager for Morgana, said: ‘The AeroCut Quatro is ideally suited to Prizmatic’s application, handling a wide range of digitally printed work. Whilst Neal will use some of the 260 pre-programmed job formats, the machine is easily programmed for the bespoke jobs that Prizmatic have. Instant finishing has never been easier, more accurate, or more productive.’
