Large format printer Press On Digital Imaging in Rochester has installed an Esko Kongsberg i-XP24 digital cutting table. It said it expects this to revolutionise its existing digital print and finishing business. The company was an early adopter of digital finishing, with the purchase of a Zünd cutting table in 2004, but it said the new Kongsberg will be four times as fast.
Andy Wilson, joint managing director, said: ‘Purchasing the new Kongsberg i XP 24 marks an exciting new era for Press On. Increasingly our existing signage and POP customers are demanding a wide range of materials and innovative finishing solutions. Meeting this demand led us to the phenomenal Kongsberg i XP 24. We will now be tackling these complex jobs and then we’ll be encouraging our current and new customers to push their creativity even further as this machine is just so versatile.’
The other managing director, Nigel Webster, added: ‘The Kongsberg i-XP24 will enable us to improve our current finishing offering and work on an astonishing range of materials accurately and quickly. Twin this with our high quality large format digital print at Press On and we are in a position to offer our customers some truly powerful solutions for their projects. We are also venturing into new markets with the high power Kongsberg router.’
Having investigated a range of digital cutting tables, Press On chose the Kongsberg i-XP24 because of its versatility and accurate handling with a wide range of materials. The new table will be used to cut corrugated board, solid board, foam, MDF, wood, styrene, vinyl, Plexiglas, polypropylene and aluminium. To handle this Press On has purchased a wide range of tools, including i-Cut camera technology which registers the head to the printed work.
Press On said that t the finishing elements of projects are blamed for bottlenecks in production the speedy new Kongsberg will be able to deliver a wider range of products at four times the speed of its existing set up. It runs 24/7, with fast changeovers for tooling. Press On has also purchased an optional high speed milling tool for the Kongsberg, which was first shown at drupa in May.
Mr Wilson adds: ‘The new machine is also user friendly. Changing tools is fast and easy for the team, which is really important to us at Press On. We want our guys to work in the best environment possible. It’s also really quiet when operating which makes for a happier, safer workplace.’
Press On Digital currently employs 25 people. It was set up in 2000 when Mr Webster and Mr Wilson decided to combine their knowledge of digital printing.
