Meeting deadlines has been made easier for The Print Unit thanks to its installation of a Horizon StitchLiner 5500 supplied by Intelligent Finishing Systems.

The increasing trend for shorter run faster turnaround work placed pressure on scheduling according to managing director Fady Gremesty, who added demand for a higher quality finish also prompted the need for the investment.

‘We had a stitcher but we needed something with more capacity and better quality,’ he said. ‘We were aware of what systems are on the market but we also have a Horizon folder so we knew what to expect. It has a robust build quality.’

A gradual increase in the number of jobs being produced shift to shift proved to be the tipping point for the installation of the fully-automated 11,000bph Horizon StitchLiner.

Also key to the spend were features that included a high profile icon-based colour touchscreen for set-ups in less than two minutes and instant job storage and recall.

‘That was very important because we have a lot of fast turnaround work and so easy set up makes makereadies more efficient,’ stated Mr Gremesty. ‘The memory storage is crucial too for the amount of short run repeat work we do. It is very easy for the operators to use and that made it an attractive option.’

The Horizon StitchLiner 5500 will handle general commercial print for regional and national clients in the retail and charitable sectors, as well as the NHS, from a five colour Man Roland 305, a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM52 and a Xerox 700.
