Owner, John Davis, with the DigiBook 200

East Sussex-based digital printing specialist Impression IT has become the latest UK print business to install a Morgana DigiBook 200 PUR perfect binding machine.

The DigiBook 200 was launched last year at Ipex 2014 as the latest addition to its popular PUR perfect binder range and has been purchased by Impression IT to replace a hot-melt perfect binding system.

Owner, John Davis, said, ‘The vast majority of our production is focused on training materials. These are typically short-run books that need to be durable. PUR binding is the ideal solution for finishing these products. It also allows us to use a wider range of substrates – particularly heavier stock weights and coated materials.’

Whilst Mr Davis was attracted to the DigiBook 150 product from Morgana Systems, it did require manual feeding. The introduction of the DigiBook 200, offering significantly more automation, provided the perfect machine for the job.

‘Our customers can order anything from 25 up to 500 books from us, often at short notice. Whilst they are not huge runs, these publications are the key ingredient of their training courses so they have to be presentable, durable, and able to last the pace,’ added Mr Davis. ‘We have been delighted with the results that we can now produce using the DigiBook 200, and have been impressed by the service received from Morgana’s service team.’

Printing at Impression IT takes place via two Canon printing units – a 135 monochrome machine and an ImagePress 6010. The company also runs a Mimaki large format unit.

The DigiBook 200 handles spine lengths from 110 to 320 mm and the maximum thickness is 50 mm. Retractable spine milling means that the device can go from soft- to hard-cover binding at the flick of a switch. Side gluing for the cover hinge is adjustable depending upon the cover style required.
