Alie Paxton, manager, print and packing department at Simplyhealth

Health and dental insurance company Simplyhealth has installed the UK’s first Mailmaster Eclipse envelope inserter from KAS Paper Systems at its Andover offices.

‘We needed a machine which would not only increase our productivity and reliability, but also give us the flexibility and data integrity to handle all types of mailing in the future,’ said Alie Paxton, manager, print and packing department.

‘We gave each machine on our tender list a thorough evaluation, sending sample work in advance and then at the demonstration we brought more challenging jobs, such as inserts printed on shiny, coated stock’, Ms Paxton explained.

Having standardised on C5 envelopes in the past, the company are now beginning to diversify into DL envelopes and, according to Ms Paxton, in the future it may change again so flexibility from a DL to C4 size was needed.

The machine’s reading technology facilitates batching the prime document, selection of inserts, merging and matching of two or more streams of personalised documentation, diverting of filled envelopes before sealing and envelope marking. ‘Data integrity is paramount because we are processing personalised letters, statements, claim forms and cheques together with marketing material, which is why we invested in the Datalog document tracking and mailing integrity checking system.’

‘We are taking a phased approach but are optimistic that once everything is on track, the Eclipse should increase our mailing and inserting productivity by 15%. At the same time it will enable us to automate the collation and insertion of our welcome packs, which are currently hand matched and inserted.’ Ms Paxton said.
