The Océ ProStream has a maximum print speed of 80 m/min

With its new Océ ProStream continuous feed colour inkjet press, Canon aims to help even more customers switch from offset to inkjet.

The Océ ProStream has a printing width of 540 mm and maximum print speed of 80 m/min, with the ability to print up to 35 million A4 pages per month. The press uses a new high-definition 1200 dpi Océ DigiDot printhead and a new pigmented polymer ink set to match or exceed offset colour gamut. The press also features new, non-contact flotation drying technology to minimise physical stresses on the paper and leave the printed image untouched until dry, enabling dense ink coverage. The ProStream also incorporates Canon’s ColorGrip paper conditioning technology.

‘We talk to many customers who are looking for a continuous inkjet press that combines the vibrant colours associated with offset with variable data capability on standard coated papers, allowing for cost efficient white paper solutions with fast time-to-market,’ commented Peter Wolff, senior director customer groups commercial printer and production CRD at Canon Europe. ‘With the ProStream, we can now give them that solution.’

‘With this new press, customers can now confidently migrate high-value work from offset to inkjet,’ said Christian Unterberger, ‎chief marketing officer and executive vice president production printing products at Océ. ‘This will enable PSPs and brand owners to exploit the full creative potential of variable data printing to elevate print’s effectiveness within data-led multi-channel campaigns.’

Canon will exhibit the new ProStream press at Hunkeler Innovationdays in Lucerne, Switzerland from 20-23 February 2017, where it will be demonstrated producing direct mail items, calendars, photo books and brochures. The press will be commercially available from summer 2017.
