Order, order: Lightning Source is taking 24 PageWide T240 HD roll-fed inkjet presses

Print 17 saw HP announce the Indigo 12000 HD press which offers doubled image resolution compared to previous models, plus a quality boost for the PageWide T240 HD and commercial availability of the Indigo 50000.

HP’s high definition imaging system for the B2 format Indigo 12000 HD uses an additional 12 laser beams to increase image resolution to 1625dpi to deliver “sharper, smoother, finer print” that HP says surpasses offset quality and will open up new possibilities in high-end commercial and photo graphics applications.

The HD technology will also be made available as an upgrade to existing Indigo 12000 and 10000 units. Various software enhancements are also available for high quality image printing, plus extended colour gamut via fluorescent orange, green and yellow Electroinks, which are now in beta testing at customer sites.

Performance HDK mode is a new optimisation for printing on HP inkjets presses that use the company’s High Definition Nozzle Architecture (HDNA). It’s now available for the PageWide Web T240HD roll-fed press and is said to yield improved image quality in both mono and colour at full press speed of 500 feet per minute (just over 150m/min). This should allow more jobs in publishing, direct mail and commercial print to be transferred to the inkjet platform, as evidenced by US print-on-demand specialist Lighting Source placing an order for 24 PageWide T240 presses to be delivered between now and 2024.

The oversize B1 Indigo 50000, which can handle impositions of up to 10-up A4 pages, has completed beta testing and is now commercially available. The duplex roll-fed press runs at up to 42m/min in colour and 2280m/min in mono.
