Digiflute is designed for digital

Corrugated board manufacturer Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding has launched Digiflute, a corrugated sheet board specifically designed for  flatbed digital printing.

The company says there were ‘considerable’ challenges in providing a substrate that is able to accommodate the narrow tolerances supported by the digital printing process. Its digital grade development team collaborated with printers and manufacturers to create and test the new board.

A consistent printing surface, with board calliper to minimise flute shadow, along with uniform application of clay coating enables quicker drying time and press productivity, it is claimed.

Digiflute is available in E, B, EB and EE profiles, is 100% recyclable and is fully FSC-accredited.

The substrate is suitable for both generic and specialist inks and meets the requirements of a range of presses, in particular new print technologies such as water-based inks. Existing issues experienced on digital printers, such as mottling and burnishing (particularly prevalent in designs showing high levels of cyan) are also alleviated, according to Smurfit Kappa.
