Xitron has expanded its K2 workflow family with the launch of K2D-X, a workflow solution designed for digital print production, alongside the latest generation of its production workflow platform, K2 3.0.

The Hybrid Software Group subsidiary developed K2D-X for print businesses operating multiple digital presses and digital front ends (DFEs), with the aim of providing a common prepress workflow across mixed-vendor production environments.

K2D-X prepares incoming PDF files before they reach the press, carrying out preflighting, correction, normalisation and imposition before delivering press-ready PDF files to the appropriate DFE. This allows printers to prepare jobs through a common upstream workflow while retaining manufacturers’ native DFEs for driving individual presses.

According to Xitron, the approach is intended to address the increasing complexity faced by digital print businesses as they add presses from different manufacturers, each potentially bringing its own DFE and associated workflow.

“Digital print providers have invested heavily in expanding their production capabilities over the past decade,” said Paul Napolitano, product manager at Xitron. “The challenge is that every new DFE introduces another production island. K2D-X gives customers a common workflow that prepares jobs once and delivers production-ready PDF files wherever they’re needed, without forcing them to replace the equipment in which they’ve already invested.”

As K2D-X outputs press-ready PDFs, it is aimed at print providers that do not require a traditional RIP or RIP functions such as trapping, enabling them to standardise prepress while retaining their existing press and DFE infrastructure.

Xitron is also introducing K2 3.0, the latest release of its flagship workflow platform. The new version includes expanded workflow automation, enhanced job management, streamlined deployment and improved third-party integration, with the aim of reducing manual intervention in production.

Both K2D-X and K2 3.0 will be demonstrated at PRINTING United Expo 2026 on the Hybrid Software booth, C1371.
