Pureprint Group has marked a career milestone for team member Harry Sargent, who celebrates 45 years in the print industry.

Mr Sargent began his career on 30 June 1980, the same day the UK sixpence coin was withdrawn. At 16, he joined Beacon Press in Uckfield straight from school as an apprentice, working hands-on with letterpress equipment and later gaining experience on litho presses, die-cutting cylinders, guillotines, and folding machines.

“In the early 1990s, I moved into the estimating department, which opened up a new chapter for me,” said Mr Sargent. “My practical experience became invaluable in helping to plan jobs and quote accurately. The printing industry has changed immensely over the decades, but my passion for the trade and the people within it remains unwavering.”

Beacon Press became part of Pureprint Group in 2004 following its acquisition by East Sussex Press. Mr Sargent has remained with the company through this transition and the many technological shifts within the sector.

Richard Osborne, Pureprint managing director, commented: “It’s been a pleasure for me sharing the last 25 years of Harry’s career at Pureprint. In how many companies does 25 years mean you’re still a newbie — as he still reminds me? Congratulations and thank you, Harry, for all your hard work and dedication over so many years.”

To celebrate the anniversary, Mr Sargent recently shared original letters from 1980 that confirmed his apprenticeship offer from Beacon Press, offering a nostalgic look back as part of Pureprint’s internal celebrations.

Having witnessed the industry evolve from manual workflows to today’s digital-led environment, Mr Sargent continues to be recognised for his professionalism, deep knowledge and steady presence within the business.
