Pureprint Group used one of its HP Indigo digital presses to print short runs of artwork as well as the catalogue for a creative project called The Wing Assignment.

The Assignment is a led by London-based graphic designer and illustrator Nina Farrell in creative partnership with Asa Medhurst, an artist who works in the web sector. The idea behind the initiative is that any object can be used to inspire a piece of work; in this year’s case this was a bird’s wings.

Some 60 creatives took part in The Wing Assignment this year. Work produced by architects, writers, photographers, illustrators, painters and graphic designers could be included; some from as far afield as Singapore and the United States.

All submissions were exhibited at the Red Bull Studios’ Tooley Street Gallery last week.

Pureprint undertook the printing of 100 copies of each of the 12 selected artworks as well as printing 400 copies of the catalogue on its HP Indigo press. The 12 signed edition prints of 100 were on sale at at £60 each. A percentage of print sales will be donated to Wings for Life, a charity funding research into spinal cord injuries.

Richard Owers, director of Pureprint, said: ‘We believe in supporting creativity and are delighted to get behind this wonderful project, encouraging imaginative submissions from all disciplines.’
