The next evolution of Kodak’s Prosper inkjet technology has been announced – the Prosper 6000 press, which comes in C (Commercial) and P (Publishing) variations.
Both presses print at speeds of up to 1000 feet (300 metres) per minute on matt and uncoated papers, with a duty cycle of 90 million A4 pages per month. This is up to 2.5 times faster than the company’s Prosper 5000XLi press – Kodak is taking advantage of some of the latent productivity potential within its core Stream inkjet technology with these speed increases.
The Prosper 6000 has enhanced drying capability, which allows heavy-weight glossy and silk stock to be printed at 650 feet, or 200 metres, per minute on the C version (100 metres per minute for glossy stock on the 6000P). It also is a ground-up new press design, incorporating more than 20 patent-pending innovations, the company said. It has an improved Intelligent Print System, which continually monitors and adjusts register to ensure quality remains high, and uses a newly formulated nanotechnology pigment ink that provides a wider colour gamut.
The 6000C is due to be available this summer. It accepts papers in weights between 42 and 270 gsm. The 6000P will be on the market slightly later, in the autumn, and will take 42 to 120 gsm papers. Both presses are listed in excess of $3 million.
