Scott Conway, sales and marketing director, has praised the resilience and hard work of Venture Banners’ staff after they fought to save the company headquarters from flood damage.
The footage below shows how the entire production room floor was submerged in under an hour.
The flood was caused by a flash flood over Witham, where the company is based, on the morning of Saturday 20 September. By nine o’clock in the morning the water was up to four feet in places.
Every machine suffered from ingress of water including hemmers, eyeleters, both the company’s Vuteks and its Zund cutter. The management team were alerted to the flood after an employee made a routine check on the internal CCTV feed from their mobile phone. Once they that water was filling the production room the alarm was raised and staff were called to action, even bringing along their other halves to mop and clean up all weekend.
Mr Conway, said, ‘Thanks to our superb team, we had Vutek 1 (Bert) up and running on Tuesday when we worked through the night to catch up so as not to let too many of our trade customers down, and Vutek 2 (Ernie) back up by Thursday lunchtime.’
Unfortunately the Zund, which is only several months old, is still not operational but the company hopes to have that back by the end of next week.
Between 23 December 2013 and 28 February 2014 3,100 businesses suffered damage from flooding, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
