Platinum Print, Harrogate-based commercial printer, has increased its mailing capacity by 25% with the installation of a Mailmaster 465HS envelope inserter from KAS Paper Systems.

‘With the growth in the digital print side of our business and our ability to offer a range of personalisation, the mailing side of our business has continued to grow. At the same time, the type of workload has changed, which is why we needed to upgrade. The original Mailmaster 465 had a lot of life left in it but it was too slow and didn’t have the ‘intelligence’ we needed to handle the more complex and transactional mailings. This is important when we are processing personalised mailings such as pension and insurance statements and matching inserts in different formats,’ explained Mark Plummer, managing director.

The mailer also inserts from DL to C4 size envelopes but operates at 6000 completed envelopes an hour. The machine has intelligent feeders, so it can feed from a stack. It can select which insert bins to feed from, which is important for the more complex mailings where matching of personal documents is required.

‘Previously we had to collate sets by hand before putting them onto the mailing machine but now it can automatically read the bar codes, select the sets, fold and insert them into envelopes. At the same time it gives us data reports. It can automatically insert multi-types of items from one insert station. Because it was such a time consuming and labour intensive process, we had to outsource some of these jobs but now we are able to do everything in-house, making a significant saving in cost and time,’ added Mr Plummer.
