The Graphcut 52H guillotine

Nottingham digital print specialist Grange Print has invested in the UK’s first Graphcut 52H fully hydraulic guillotine supplied by Terry Cooper Services (TCS).

The addition was part of a £100,000 investment programme to develop a streamlined short run personalised print production department to support the operation’s large format service.

Also included in the spend was a Konica Minolta Bizhub and a Vivid Matrix laminator which will allow the company to create foiling and spot UV effects on print.

‘We have a well established large format digital print division with Rolands, Canons and Mimakis and we wanted to support that business with high quality fast turnaround short run print,’ explained Paul Evans, managing director at Grange Print.

The Grafcut 52H replaces an Ideal 4850. ‘I liked its ease of use and programmability,’ stated Mr Evans. ‘We have a lot of traffic through our website for our personalised print and we need to ensure these are completed as quickly as possible to maximise our profitability. The Graphcut helps us get the work in and out.’

The small foot-printed, fully programmable, single-phase electricity, sturdy systems offer the choice of electric motor driven clamp and knife or full hydraulic operation. All models include light barrier, infra-red cutting light beam and full programmability via a touchscreen.

As for return on investment Mr Evans said, ‘We expect all three systems to give us total payback in two to three years based on the volumes we are completing at the moment. We were outsourcing out lamination and small run digital print, now we can keep it all in-house. That saves us time and money.’
