The Xeikon Trillium One
The first machine based on Xeikon’s liquid toner technology, the Trillium One, will be launched by the company at drupa and will be aimed at high volume, high quality direct mail and catalogue applications.
Running at a speed of 60 m/min, the 500 mm wide web fed machine is capable of producing 800 A4 pages per minute on standard coated materials.
‘There is a need for a high quality and high productivity digital press,’ said Xeikon president Wim Maes. ‘A lot of applications are not addressable by digital due to the need for lower cost and higher productivity.’
The company said that in particular the press would enable jobs with high ink coverage in excess of 40 – 60% that were currently uneconomic using inkjet printing. It is designed to produce volumes of between five million and 15 million A4 pages per month.
Trillium One uses Xeikon’s liquid toner technology and the 1200 dpi LED imaging system used on its dry toner presses, on a paper transport manufactured for it by Japanese company Miyakoshi.
It uses a liquid toner, which Xeikon has branded Tonnik, that is supplied in 10 kg barrels and is made at the company’s existing toner plant using a modified version of the process used to make its dry toners.
The company revealed that it hadn’t proceeded with the planned beta installation at a French customer, however the testing had been carried out by that customer on a press installed at Xeikon’s factory in Lier, Belgium.
It expects to take orders later this year with commercial installations commencing in the second quarter of 2017.
